Canned Cheese History

Tastee cheese is rich in calcium and protein as well as other essential nutrients and have provided the Jamaican palette with a balance and nutritional Jamaican staple for over 55 years.

Dairy Industries (Ja) Ltd. started its canned cheese manufacturing operations in 1968 and have over the years dominated the processed cheese business in Jamaica with its flagship brand, Tastee cheese.

The company’s other cheese products include processed canned cheese under the Crest and Cheder brands, Tastee processed cheese in vacuum pack and spreads.

Dairy Industries was the first company in Jamaica and the Caribbean to achieve the international ISO 9000 certification in 1995 and have successfully earned their recertification over the last twenty-five years. The company is now certified under the FSSC 22000.

Tastee cheese is made with the highest quality ingredients and our manufacturing is guided by our internationally certified food safety management system, FSSC 22000.

We are the only company in Jamaica and the Caribbean that manufactures a processed cheese in a can that is uniquely made for the Jamaican and Caribbean palate.

There is a strong tradition with Jamaicans of having spiced buns with Tastee Cheese at Easter which spikes consumption around Easter locally and in the diaspora.

A second cheese season celebrated in September focus on the versatility, uses, and benefits of Tastee cheese.
